ARTIST'S DESCRIPTION
This #MRasheedCartoons image was inspired by the real life flinch started out of me when Juneteenth became the twelfth Federal Holiday of the United States on Thursday, 17 Jun. I was totally like, "Uh oh. What the hell is about to happen now?"

I was already tracking the fact that the loyal white supremacist support group Congressional Black Caucus had been ferociously pushing for Juneteenth to become a federal holiday as an obvious distraction from the Reparations heat the grassroots activists had ignited in the national discussion over the last few years, so it looks like this is just the politician class' way of shutting Black Americans up for another 50+ yrs with impotent symbolic fluff.

*************************

Andre Owens - I see people already complaining that folks are gonna exploit Juneteenth to sell mattresses. I say, no duh. This is a Capitalist society, we're gonna commoditize everything, including holidays and people. Nothing is sacred.

Don't act surprised, we sold human beings not too long ago. 160 years is within two peoples life spans. There are other ways, but Americans are too indoctrinated. If I even say Marxism, I'll trigger the little Capitalist handmaidens to come a running. Watch.

...it means you're still indoctrinated and willfully ignorant. I'm glad I could help. #SeeYaNextTime

Andre Owens - How's that boot taste?

Muhammad Rasheed - I don't subscribe to your religion, so I will never understand your silly references. #GetWise

Muhammad Rasheed - In all seriousness, there's nothing wrong with bringing awareness of this concern to the national discussion, and making the decision as part of the Juneteenth celebratory tradition to boycott such efforts to exploit us in it.

It would be more productive for you to take the activist position than to double-down on attacking the people who are actually justified in their facts-of-history supported cynicism.

Andre Owens - Yes, nothing wrong with bringing awareness and changing hearts and minds (ya like that one?), but your proposed boycott means nothing to the system. In fact, other Black folks will giddily sell bullshit (which, again, I really have no problem with in this system. It is what it is and I wont knock anyone's hustle. I just see a better alternative.) to our own people.

Dr. King performed two highly effective boycotts in 1950s Alabama, and the 'gradualism/paternalism' white liberals IMMEDATELY took over the movement to keep that from happening again. The so-called "lost" MSNBC interview with dr. King revealed that he greatly regretted believing their rhetoric and allowing them to sabotage the civil rights movement's momentum by removing a tool that the system does indeed fear when used correctly.
